Yecheon, located at the northern extreme of North Gyeongsang Province, borders Yeongju and Andong on the east, Mungyeong on the west, Uiseong on the south and Danyang of North Chungcheong Province on the north. The total land size of Yecheon accounts for 668.9§´, which is corresponding to about 3.5% of whole land size of North Gyeongsang Province's 19,026§´. The Yecheon land is consisted of about 55,54%, or 367.02 §´ of forests, whereas the land for farming is only 17.68%, or 116.82§´. As of December, 2005, it had the population of 51,200 with 20,705 households and is divided into 1 town and 11 subcounties.
 
The northeastern region of Yecheon is a mountainous region formed by the Sobaek Mountains and the southwestern region is a plain formed by Nakdong River and Naeseong Stream.

Since the weather in Yecheon belongs to a monsoon climate zone, it is cold and dry during the winter as influenced by the continental climate, while it is hot and humid with lots of rain during the summer as influenced by the oceanic climate. The year average temperature of Yecheon area is 11.3 ¨¬C. The average temperature is the highest in July, averaging 24.2 ¨¬C, and it is the lowest in January averaging -2.6 ¨¬C. The rainfall of Yecheon is year average approximately 1,174.12mm for the between 2001 and 2005 year.

Also, traditionally, Yecheon has earned the worldwide reputation as the Mecca of Archery with prominent athletes at the World Championship and Olympic Games.? Presently, Yecheon operates the two Archery teams, where more than 10 national athletes are actively working and having the best performances at the both domestic and global matches.

Yecheon is widely known as the city of four season festivals and sightseeing & events; in the spring, Yecheon holds ¡®Harvesting Wild Edible Greens¡¯ Festival. In the summer, there are Yecheon Insects Bio Expo, Tongmyeong Farmers¡¯ folk song festival, and Yecheon Arirang Festival. One of the key festivals offered during autumn is Yecheon Cultural Festival, which is held with the attendance of the county¡¯s 60,000 citizens. Yecheon holds the Yecheon folk game during the winter.

Yecheon is an agricultural region, located at the foot of Sobaek Mountain in Gyeongsangbuk Province. Throughout 1200 year history, Yecheon has created a splendid traditional culture from a mixture of Confucianism and Buddhism and has also produced men of distinguished talent. Specifically, clean environment makes itself produce many special agricultural products, including sesame oil. Yecheon is viewed as the rural city of the future with a great transportation network of air, railroad and land routes. Cultural sites include Yongmun-sa (a Buddhist temple) and recreational destinations such as the Nailseong astronomical observatory and the Yecheon hot springs resorts.
